Because we opened the donation program prior in getting the face masks done from our suppliers, we received a lot of questions on how they look like.

Today we received several finished samples from our suppliers. These are 2-ply washable cloth masks with elastic ear loops, and they should be comfortable for prolonged use. As there are a couple of suppliers producing these, they come in two different models, and we will distribute them equally.

Thanks to your kind donations, we have ordered 1,000 masks and our suppliers are working the best they can to get them delivered to us for distribution.

More updates will be posted once we have them.

Help us provide face masks for everyone

UPDATE:
2020/05/09 – To date we have shipped 1,210 masks.

2020/04/15 – We have start ordering the first batch of 1,000 masks. The financial and progress report for this project is publicly accessible here.

We are now opening donations for us to provide non-medical face masks for everyone as an extension to our Face Shield donation program.

As we are prioritizing on shipping face shields to hospitals in the rural areas, and most of them are outside of Jakarta, there is a good chance that the community around those hospitals need face masks as well. Currently we are doing what we can to suppress expensive shipping costs by pooling shipments into small local distribution posts (maintained by medical professionals within that shipment destination), but they are still not cheap. Logistics to places outside Java have always been an issue. The further out, the more expensive it gets. We’d like to maximize those shipments to include things that people need as well.

Every IDR 6.000 will cover the production and handling cost of one face mask. We are working with our suppliers to get the production going. We are attaching this to the Face Shield donation program to take advantage of the shipping management that we have already been doing.

Just like the face shields, this will also be a transparent operation, and all reports will also be available publicly. Your donations will be responsibly managed only for this purpose. We will also do our best to vet every shipment to make sure that these masks go to the people who actually need them. We want to make sure that no one is hoarding these masks at the expense of anyone.

Every donation counts, and we thank each and everyone of you. Stay safe, stay healthy.

UPDATE:
2020/05/09 – To date we have shipped 1,434 shields to 81 different hospitals.

2020/05/03 – To date we have shipped 1,098 shields to 60 different hospitals.

2020/04/11 – To date we have shipped 486 masks to 27 different hospitals. We are still targeting to produce at least 1,800 in total. We are also constantly working to streamline and optimize the manufacturing process of each shield. This means that hopefully we can get cheaper production costs, and ship even more shields out with your same donations in the coming weeks.

2020/04/08 – We have reached our initial goal, and we’re currently closing the donation window to focus on getting the shields produced. We thank you for your kind donations. The financial and progress report for this project is publicly accessible here.

We are now opening donations so that we can provide even more medical face shields to those in need.

Currently we are still ramping up our production of at least 300 face shields that we funded ourselves. We are able to produce about 120 shields per day, with each shield taking up just about 2 minutes of laser-cutting. However, we are also still applying the highest safety margin for everyone working in the office, and we can only set a certain timeframe while some of us are working from home. We are constantly working to improve our production process so that we can get these visors out as fast as we can.

Every IDR 25.000 will cover the production, handling, and a part of the shipping cost of one face shield. We have received many requests from hospitals (especially outside Jakarta) who are in dire need of these visors, and we will do the best we can to fulfil them. We are going to be cross-subsidizing the shipping charges to make sure we can reach the furthest places in Indonesia, and absorb the shipping deficit if we need to.

We are also conducting a transparent operation, and all reports will be publicly accessible here. Your donations will be responsibly managed only for this purpose. We will also do our best to vet every donation request to make sure that these shields go to the people who actually need them. We want to make sure that no one is hoarding these masks at the expense of anyone.

One of the things in immediate need right now are face shields for those in the front line fighting the pandemic. Health care personnels are saving lives by risking their lives every day. As designers (Neuro-Designs) and makers (Axocraft), we feel that we need to do something. It’s a part of our social responsibility, and we want to do everything that we can to contribute with our expertise in this tough times.

One of the first makers who pushed this initiative was Josef Prusa, and many makers and designers have since followed suit with countless iterations to enable these shields to be mass-produced by means of both digital and manual fabrication. The one we opted for is the second version of a laser-cut face shield designed by Konrad Klepacki and Mateusz Dyrda. After careful consideration, we found that—at least in our case—this is the best version with the best compromise between materials that we need to acquire, manufacturing time, and ease of sterilization. The designers themselves optimized the design for mass production, and given the situation, we think this is the best way to go, at least for now.

Earlier this week, we have started sourcing materials for initial testing and feasibility, as well as calculating how much we can produce at a given time relative to the materials available. We’re planning to provide 12-pack sets (sanitized and sealed in a zipper bag) and donate them to hospitals in need. We have made several dozens this week, and hopefully we are able to continuously produce these as many as we can.

To medical professionals out there, you are the unsung heroes of this situation. The amount of gratitude would not be enough to thank all of you for risking your lives. If your hospital need stocks of these, please feel free to contact us, and we’ll try to do everything we can to help.

To other designers and makers, we do have a limited facility, and getting PET sheets to make these can be tricky sometimes. While we’re going to try to produce as many as we can and donate them to as many medical staff as possible, they surely won’t be enough. So if you have the means to produce this as clean as you possibly can, please help out. Don’t sell them. Just make them, ask who needs them, and donate them. If you don’t have the means to absorb the material and labor cost, open up a donation fund, and let people help you make these masks. Also, whatever you do, please don’t laser cut PVC sheets. It produces toxic fumes. This is why we decided to use PET sheets.

In the mean time, stay safe. We will get through this.

Important disclaimer: As much as we try to sanitize these masks, they are not medically-rated, and we are not trained medical professionals as well. These visors would need to be sanitized again prior to use and we are aware of this limitation. In desperate times, at the very least, these visors would help while waiting for actual medically-rated equipments to be restocked and become available for medical personnels. With every shipment, we’ll be providing instructions with clear warnings and reminders as well to make sure that they are handled properly.

The Upside Down - Live from the Hawkins National Laboratory

It’s been a while since we did pop culture-inspired T-shirts. As with many people, we watched Stranger Things and it deeply touched our hearts. Mostly because we grew up in the 80’s and Stranger Things is the perfect homage. There’s no better thing than making a tee to show how much we loved the show. You can go here to pre-order yours.

Here’s to the (an even more awesome) second season and more Demogorgons!
